Eri Silk or Ahimsa – Asom kriti

Eri Silk or Ahimsa

Eri silk is made from the caterpillar of Samia synthia ricini found exclusively in northeast India. The term "Eri" is derived from the word "Era" which means castor in Assamese as the silkworm feeds on castor plants.
Eri silk is warm and thus, mostly used to make woolen clothing like shawl, woolen scarfs, blankets etc..The woolen white natural color silk is widely referred as "Ahimsa Silk" or "Fabric of peace". This is because it is processed without killing the silkworm.
